General Guidelines about Candles

  • Remove all packaging before lighting.
  • Place on protected, heat-resistant, dry surface, away from anything that can catch fire, and out of reach of pets and children. Use holders designed for the particular style of candle you are burning.
  • Trim wick to 1/8”to1/4” before lighting.
  • If smoking occurs, blow candle out. Trim wick(s), remove trimmings, and relight.
  • Keep the wax pool free of wick trimmings, matches, or any combustible material. Keep the wick centered. and avoid drafts.

Jars

  • Glass containers are fragile. Avoid glass-to-glass contact when removing or replacing the lid. Do not used if cracked chipped or scratched. Do not refill with wax.
  • Do not allow the flame to touch the side of the jar. The jar may become hot. Handle with care.
  • To minimize wax left on the sides of the jar burn 3 hours at a time;
  • Prevent possible heat damage to the counter/surface by discontinuing use when ½” of wax remains.
  • Extinguish carefully before replacing lid.

Pillars

  • When wax pool reaches the candle’s edge, extinguish flame and allow candle to harden before relighting. This will prevent dripping.

Tapers

  • To prevent possible dripping avoid drafts, excessive vibrations or nearby heat sources.
  • Candle (hurricane) lamps may cause dripping due to the buildup of heat.
  • Be sure tapers are straight, and set firmly in their holders.
  • Trim the taper’s wick to 1/8”-14” before lighting.

Samplers/Votives

  • Burn in appropriate holder. To minimize dripping and guttering, we recommend and straight sided, snug fitting votive cup. Do not burn freestanding.

Some More Tips

Storing Candles. Candles are sensitive to light and temperature, so be careful when storing for an extended period of time. Candles should be stored in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight or florescent light. Storage temperature should not exceed 80 degrees or fall below 32 degrees. Exposure to moisture may inhibit relighting.

When traveling do not keep candles in the trunk of your car or out in the sun they may melt or discolor.

Cleaning Candles. If the mouth of a jar candle becomes blackened while burning, extinguish the candle, allow to cool and carefully wipe the jar’s rim with a dry paper towel. To avoid this blackening keep the wick trimmed to the recommended 1/8”-1/4” at all times.

Removing Hardened Wax From Containers. Place the holder in the freezer for about 30 minutes or until wax has loosened, then carefully pop it out with your fingers.
